About this template

An open call for talks that arrives by email cannot be scored, because every submission has a different shape. This form fixes the shape: title, abstract, takeaways, format, and level, which is enough for a committee to rank proposals without asking follow up questions.

The takeaways field is the one that separates a good proposal from a good title. Asking what the audience will be able to do afterwards forces a speaker to commit to something concrete, and the answers make the programme easier to write because they are almost usable as session descriptions.

Asking for a recording of a previous talk is optional but tells a committee a lot, particularly for a longer slot. Add a diversity question if you report on it, and make travel support required reading for whoever handles the budget rather than the programme.

Templates are a starting point, not legal or professional advice. Where a form carries consent, medical, or contractual wording, have somebody qualified review it against the rules that apply to you before you publish.
